Nini Mebuke is all about elevating the way you look and feel every day. From the very start, we knew we wanted to create collections that were sleek, stylish, and easy to wear. We also wanted our customers to feel confident not only in the way the shoes look but also in how the shoes were made.
To do that, we built our company around the appreciation of artisan traditions, respect for global craftsmanship and ethical production practices. That vision was born in Bucaramanga, Colombia. Our time there ignited creativity and passion we could not ignore. The people, traditions, and landscape of Colombia inspire every collection.
Colombian people are warm and welcoming. They are deeply connected to family and to cultural traditions that have been handed down for generations. Colombians also have strong ties to their communities. Working together to create better economic opportunities and access to education is valued by people in even the smallest villages. Pride in their work and deep respect for artisan traditions is practically woven into the fabric of Colombian cultural life.
One of the ways Colombians celebrate and share is with food and their cuisine is some of the best in the world. Because the country is abundant and biodiverse, a huge range of produce is grown there. The cuisine is a unique blend of Indigenous Colombian, Spanish and African flavors. Most people are familiar with typical Colombian dishes like arepas, empanadas, and tamales. But the national dish, bandeja paisa, is less well known. Imagine a tray loaded with grilled steak, fried pork rind, and chorizo sausage on a bed of white rice and beans. Now imagine it all topped off with a fried egg, and served with sliced avocado and fried plantain. It is absolutely delicious and you will not be hungry again for days.
Because of its size, Colombia is both mountainous and coastal, which means both warm ocean breezes and breathing in the cool, misty air. It’s impossible not to feel inspired by the sensory excitement of the country. Colombia is also one of the most visually stunning countries in the world. We found inspiration everywhere. In bright colors, rich textures, and handmade goods. In the murals and mosaics. In the gardens and beaches. And, of course, in the people themselves. Masters of age-old crafting techniques, their pride in creating truly beautiful things is something to see.
We love knowing that every pair of Nini Mebuke shoes blends old world handcraft and modern design. We also love that our designs reflect the culture we found so inspiring. The small town of Bucaramanga, with its beautiful traditions, scenery, and spirit left us feeling connected and creatively inspired. Nini Mebuke brings together the highest quality materials, respect, and opportunity for our makers, and globally-inspired designs that feel just as good as they look. We are proud to have brought our vision to life – and we can’t wait to see you in it.
